King-314 - 1909 Abraham Lincoln Centenary Medal by Charles K. Warner
King-314; Cunningham 11-490S. Struck in silver (or silver-plated - not sure which; as soon as I can find someone with an x-ray gun, I will state for sure) with a plain edge. 51 mm. Obv: Right facing, bearded bust of Lincoln surrounded by ABRAHAM LINCOLN / 1809 / 1865 at the periphery. Rev: A closed laurel wreath surrounds 1809-1909 / WITH MALICE TOWARD / NONE WITH CHARITY / FOR ALL * WITH / FIRMNESS IN THE RIGHT / AS GOD GIVES US / TO SEE THE RIGHT. Beautiful multi-hued original obverse toning featuring blues, rose, and yellow-gold; the reverse is a more subtle rosy-gold with blue at the rim. (The colors are much more vibrant than the photos imply.) A few widely scattered contact marks can be located but none are overly distracting. Heavy die polishing lines are seen under magnification but these of course would not adversely affect the grade. Would conservatively grade 63 in my opinion.
